Government is set to blow a whopping K5 million for 17 members of parliament who will be attending attending a two day workshop in Salima.

Spokesman for ministry of Transport James Chabwera confirmed the ministry has asked the Department of Airport Department Limited (ADL) to raise the money.

“The MPs will be oriented on the Civil Aviation Bill,” said Chabwera.

He defended the use of K5 million for 17 people for just two days, saying the members of parliament will be given what they are entitled to.

All the 17 legislators are from the parliament’s Transport Committee.

A letter from the ministry principal secretary Moffat Chitimbe dated September 27 shows the workshop will be from October 7 to 9 and the MPs will get K284000 each for allowances and K118000 as transort refunds.

This comes at a time when IMF has warned the government that the economy would collapse completely if the government continues with its reckless spending.

MPs being paid what they deserve its not the problem of DPP government. It is the government structure. Its not DPP who decides pays for MPs. Why Malawians never protest when MPs are demanding higher perks. Did you hear MPs rcrushing each other on their increased higher salary demand? and they come out of the house to cheat us that Government is ill treating people by paying them low salaries. They were in Mangochi and will come out making noise of the evils government is doing to local villagers when themselves are becoming rich. shame

‘MPs will be given what they are entitled to’?? What about the hungry villagers, the children late for school because they have to find water from long distances, the sick with no medicine? What are they entitled to? This government should be ashamed of itself.
