Ndau said he will be chairing the meeting that will be attended by cabinet ministers and officials from his ministry, Trade and Industry, Foreign Affairs and Defence.

“We are concerned that five trucks have been burnt so far, we have lost lots of fuel therefore we want to strategise on how best to handle the situation,” he said.

He said the government has already told transporters to avoid the Tete to Beira road and use another route which he said is 103 kilometres longer but much safer. ]

Ndau said the government is in touch with the Mozambican authorities on the matter.

Mwanza Immigration spokesperson Pascali Zulu said authorities in Mozambique are now escorting all trucks and passenger vehicles going through the country.

If the Mozambique Government can not secure the territory/road from Tete to Beira because of rebels, then let THE MALAWI GOVERNMENT send troops to flush out the rebels. Decree war on those rebels. Its them who have started. We can not just seat phwiii and watch while our fellow citizens and property are perishing.

I support you Mwahenga 100%. To put it raw ife a Malawi ndife anthu opepera, zitsiru ndichifukwa chake anthu amatiwonerera. It’s high time we and our leaders changed our apathetic attitude towards very critical issues. You don’t have to be a big country to make a name. Think about Japan, a mere collection of small Islands but feared world wide. We can also earn more significant respect. Kale kuli Kamuzu ma neighbour amatiwopa. Reason Kamuzu analibe zibwana. But now look at the quality of leadership… from the top to the root…eish…
