Malawi handed a boost: Gaba back, Kenya without Celtic star Wanyama
Malawi national football team has been handed a boost in the Wednesday’s World Cup qualifier against Kenya as the Harambe Stars will be without their new captain Victor Wanyama after being injured in their midweek defeat by Nigeria.
The Flames have six points—two behind group leaders Nigeria—with two games each before they complete the qualifiers while Kenya sit bottom of Group F, six points behind leaders Nigeria.
Kenya coach Adel Amrouche expressed concern with the absence of Wanyama who plays for Scottish champions Celtic,
“It is unfortunate but Wanyama is out of the match because he suffered a serious injury against Nigeria. We have opted to give him time to rest and recover from the injury,” said Amrouche.
Meanwhile, Malawi coach Eddington Ng’onamo has included hotshot Gabadinho Mhango for Wednesday’s swim-or-sink match.
Gabadinho missed last Wednesday’s match against Namibia’s Brave Warriors, but will be available for selection against Kenya as he will complete his Junior Certificate of Education examinations on Tuesday—just a day before the game.
