Malawi hockey team for Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Tanzania

Malawi national hockey left for Tanzania to participate in the Africa hockey Nations Cup involving Zambia and hosts Tanzania.

Malawi Hockey team optimistic

The team tournament, which is the first edition of Africa Hockey Federation President’s Cup in Arusha for both men and women, will take place at Sikh Union Complex from February 22 to 26.

Malawi national hockey team coach Geof Biya applauded Malawi National Council of Sports for ensuring that the team should return to international action after 20 years by providing funding for the team.

Biya is also optimistic that the team would do well considering that the competition during preparation was stiff to come up for the travelling squad.

“I am confident that the we do well against our opponents because the players are in high spirits and  also know Zambia better having coached it before,” Biya said.

The following is the full list of players and officials for the delegation.

Goalkeepers; Jones Johanne Chonzi Dayo, Redson Mankhanamba,

Defenders; Temwa Kingsley Chirwa, Jeffrey Kadango, Anthony Pinheiro, Gift Kagwada, Benjamin Chaura,

Midfielders; Levi Kumwenda, Mayayi Nhlane, Ulemu Ngwira, Innocent Masangano, Knox Katsala Malinki,

Strikers; James Bandawe, Kuleza Peno.

The following is the technical panel; Geof Biya (Head coach), Allan Pinheiro (Assistant Coach), Cathrew Chimimba (Fitness trainer), Kundai Mbawala ( Team manager), Precious Tadala Gwelema (Physio).

Somebody at Sports council said,hockey is always favoured because the CEO George Jana’s daughter is in the association i think thats the leader of delegation.Amenewa ma allowance awo anapatsidwa kale koma maQueens kumachita kugubila, FAM mbava NAM mbava amaonera akuluakulu aku Sports council.Sports siingatukuke paMalawi.
