Malawi hospital attendant arrested for aiding Ethiopian illegal lags
Malawi Police in Mzimba have arrested 33 year old Samuel Banda for aiding seven Ethiopians to enter into the country illegally.
Banda, who works as a hospital attendant at Mzimba hospital,l was arrested on Novermber 5.
Mzimba police spokesperson Gift Nyirongo confirmed the development in an interview with Nyasa Times saying the suspect kept the seven illegal aliens at his house.
”The police received a tip from members of the public that Banda was keeping seven illegal immigrants at his house. We rushed there and arrested the seven Ethiopians,” said Nyirongo.
He said the suspect will be charged with the offence of aiding illegal immigrants.
Banda comes from Mbobo village, T/A M’mbelwa in Mzimba district.
Arrest for murder
In another development, police at Manyamula police unit on November 3 arrested 45 year old Keliness Banda of Chikayanga village T/A M’mbelwa for killing her own baby.
According to Nyirongo, the woman secretely gave birth in the wee hours of Novermber 3. She then wrapped the baby in a pastic bag and threw her in a stream.
Police investigations revealed that the woman murdered her own baby because her husband denied being responsible for the woman’s pregnancy.
The suspect will answer charges of infantcide contrary to section 230 of the penal code and attracts a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.
