Malawi ladies team to participate in Zambia golf tournament
Malawi ladies golf team will participate in the East and Central Africa ladies golf tournament to be held in Lusaka, Zambia from June 3-9.
Golf Union of Malawi Ladies Section chairperson Carol Banda said the country would be represented by Carol Banda, Roza Mbilizi (Blantyre Sports Club) Shira Chinkhandwe, Maina Chilingulo (both Lilongwe Golf Club), while Stella Ng’oma is team manager.
Veteran golfer Lucy Ganiza and Regina Mwanza will also accompany the team as supporters.
Banda said the tournament would draw most of the East and Central African countries including Malawi.
She also disclosed that Old Mutual has helped the team by donating three sets of uniform to each of the five players.
Old Mutual Marketing Executive Linda Poya said the firm donated the uniform following a request made by Golf Union of Malawi Ladies Section.
“When we were discussing the possibility to sponsor ladies golf at Blantyre Sports Club on Saturday one of the members raised the issue of sponsorship for the national team,” Poya said.
“We have sponsored the team because we felt that we must take it to the national level,” Poya said.
She said the kit comprises 15 golf shirts and capes for the five players to use for the three days they will be compete.
The team is expected to fly out to Lusaka on Friday.
