Malawi leader commits to HIV prevention, signs ‘Golden Ball’

Malawi leader  Peter Mutharika on Thursday joined 15 other Heads of State by signing a Golden Ball, committing himself to  committing himself to HIV prevention.

The signing ceremony took place at Sanjika palace in Blantyre witnessed by Ghanaian football captain Asamoah Gyan who is the Ambassador for the iniative.

Gyan is in the country to support the global ‘protect the goal’ campaign which is among a series of activities the National Aids Commission (NAC), UNAIDS and their partners are undertaking to reinvigorate HIV prevention in Malawi.

The campaign also seeks contribute to the three zero new infections, zero discrimination and zero AIDs-related death and in particular the drive towards zero infection through the galvanizing power of football.

Other planned activities during the campaign include interactive “Protect the Goal” information session with young people, media interviews and radio talk show.
