Malawi lose 0-1 to Tanzania in a build-up match for Chad

Malawi national football team, the Flames, on Tuesday lost 1-0 to Tanzania’s Taifa Stars in an international friendly match played at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

The Flames conceeded in the 36th minute .

This was the second meeting between the two teams in a space of two weeks. Stars were held to a barren draw with Malawi in the previous friendly encounter held at Sokoine Stadium in Mbeya Region.

Both teams used the encounter to prepare to try to reach the second round of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

The Flames carry to Chad capital Nd’jamena a comfortable 2-0 first leg lead, but coach Young Chimodzi is not taking chances against the Sao his team has never beaten at home.

A draw will be enough to see The Flames through to the next round, for a date with either Sao Tome or Benin.

Following is the list of players that travelled to Tanzania:

Goalkeepers: Charles Swini, Richard Chipuwa and Vincent Gona.

Defenders: Foster Namwela, Francis Mulimbika, Bashir Maunde, Limbikani Mzava, John Lanjesi and Moses Chavula.

Midfielders: Frank Banda, John Banda, Chimango Kayira, Ndaziona Chatsalira, Phillip Masiye, Joseph Kamwendo and Young Chimodzi Junior.

Strikers: Rodrick Gonani, Atusaye Nyondo, Robin Ngalande and Frank ‘Gabadinho’ Mhango.
