Malawi maintain Fifa rankings position for third consecutive month

Malawi national team has maintained for the consecutive month position 109 on Coca-Cola Fifa World latest rankings released on Thursday for the month of May.

But they have moved a step up on the Africa continent from 32- 31.

The rankings follows Malawi’s one-all draw against Zimbabwe on May 25 at Kamuzu Stadium on Blantyre in a friendly game.

The rankings were also released barely after Malawi were held to a scrappy goalless draw against Namibia in a World Cup qualifier at Kamuzu Stadium.

Malawi’s Group F World Cup rivals Nigeria are fourth in Africa and 31 in the World, Kenya are 35 in Africa and 123 in the World while Namibia perch at 120 in the World and 33 in Africa having rsien fiven steps up.

The Flames next game is another World Cup qualifier against Kenya at Kamuzu on Wednesday next week at the same venue.

The two Brazil World Cup qualifiers will count in the June rankings to be released next month on July 4.

The top most ranked team in Cosafa is Zambia on position 49 in the world after dropping three places but is still 7th in Africa.

The Chipolopolo boys are followed by South Africa who have dropped four places to position 60 in the world and 10th in Africa.

Bafana are followed by Angola on position 91 in the world and 23 in Africa after rising two places.

Zimbabwe follows on position 102 and 27 in Africa three places up from last month followed by Mozambique is on position 103 and 28thin Africa.

Spain have maintained position one on the rankings followed by Germany, Argentina, Croatia and Netherlands.

Portugal are on position six, Colombia is on position seven, England eighth, Italy  ninth, while Ecuador concludes the top 10.
