The Kasungu First Grade Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday sentenced
A 38-year-old Andrea Baton of Mkwesa Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Kawamba in central region tobacco growing district of Kasungu.
The court convicted him and sentences Baton to three years imprisonment with hard labour (IHL).
Kasungu Police Public Relations Officer Sub Inspector Edwin Kaunda said Baton was working as a tenant at a Tobacco Estate belonging to Thokozani Mkwesa when he committed the act.
According to Kaunda, the court heard that on the said date Baton went drinking at Kamboni Trading Centre and came back at around 9 p.m. while very drunk.
“Instead of going to sleep in his house, he decided to enter his boss’ kraal of goats and started having carnal knowledge of one of the she goats,” he explained.
He said neighbours were alarmed to hear bleating of goats and when they decided to check they were shocked to find the convict having sex with one of the goats.
Kaunda said police arrested Baton on January 22 and he pleaded not guilty to bestiality when he first appeared before First Grade Magistrate Hens Kantchere prompting the Magistrate to order the State to bring witnesses to prove the case.
After full trial, the court finally convicted Baton on Wednesday and Kantchere slapped him with 36 months IHL. He described the act by the convict as a taboo and a shame to society norms.Follow and Subscribe Nyasa TV :
