Malawi man strangles wife to death over SMS

A 40 year-old man in Kasungu is in the cooler for allegedly killing his wife over an explicit Short Message Service (SMS) found in the wife’s cellphone from an unknown lover.

Davison Baisikolo strangled to death, Charity Kampaliro, who was her second wife after failing to sort out some family problems that rocked their affair for so long.

Kasungu police spokesperson Edwin Kaunda said the incident happened on the early hours of 13 August, 2013 after the two had spent a night together at the wife’s home village as the two used to live in different villages.

“Since that night, nobody knew of their whereabouts at the house until 17 August, 2013 when two boys who were playing in the nearby bush in the same village saw the Kampaliro’s dead body lying down,” Kaunda said.sms

Kaunda further said the deceased’s relatives later reported the matter to police after being shocked of the incidence.

“It is reported that Baisikolo found an explicit SMS in her wife’s phone which came from a man whom he suspected to be the lover of the wife. We suspect that all this chaos originated from the SMS,” he said.

Baisikolo was later arrested on 19 August, 2013. He revealed to police that he indeed murdered the wife over the SMS which he said provoked anger that forced him to strangle her.

Post-mortem conducted at Kasungu District Hospital revealed that Kampaliro died due to strangulation.
