Malawi man subjected 8 year girl to a ‘most appalling’ sex attack: Sentenced to 12 years

The Mulanje First Grade Magistrates Court has on Thursday sentenced 39-year-old man Wadson Gama Che-Wadi to 12 years imprisonment with hard (IHL) for subjecting an eight-year-old girl in 2013 to  most appaling sex attack.

The victim is now 11 years old.

Che-Wadi committed the incident on March 22n, 2013 and has been on remand for the past three years after he pleaded not guilty to the defilement charge.

According to information presented in court, on the said date, the convict went to the victim’s grandmother while with a cigarette in his hands.

Seeing the cigarette, the grandmother asked for a share; but instead, Che-Wadi told her to get some at his house.

This prompted her to send her three grandchildren including the victim to collect the cigarette. While there, Che-Wadi defiled the victim in full view of her two relatives who later reported the incident to their grandmother.

The issue was reported to police who arrested the convict.

Although the medical report confirmed the incident, he denied to have defiled the girl before he was put on remand at Mulanje Prison.

And on Thursday First Grade Magistrate Soka Banda slapped Che-Wadi with a custodial sentence for Defilement which is contrary toSection 138 of the Penal Code.

Banda said he had imposed such a sentence on the convict because it I had been devastating and life-changing for the victim.
