Malawi music icon Lucius Banda’s new singles out

The living legend of Malawian music Lucius Banda has released two new singles off his new album ‘Time’ .

Lucius told Nyasa Times in an exclusive interview on Saturday night the two singles, ‘Tseke-tseke’ and ‘Zidutsa’, will hit the Malawian radio airwaves from Sunday.

“We promised the fans that the songs will be out on February 1 and we did not want to infringe on their rights that is why we decided to release the songs even though the whole album has not been mixed,” the musician said.

In a shift of standard, Lucius recorded ‘Time’, his 17th studio album, at Downtown Studios in Johannesburg, South Africa where iconic reggae musician Lucky Dube also recorded his music.

Lucius also recorded his debut album ‘Son of a Poor Man’  in South Africa in 1993.

Lucky Dube’s band Slaves have also lent their skills to ‘Time’.

“People should pay special attention to the instrumentation because this album was recorded live unlike previously where we recorded digitally,” he said.

According to the Balaka musician, ‘Time’ will be released in March.

“We are currently working on the videos and this is what will delay us,” he said.

On the two singles, Lucius explained that ‘Tseke-tseke’ is a fusion with urban music and features popular artist Pisky while ‘Zidutsa’  is a reggae song.

“The secret to my longevity is that I try to appeal to all age groups, and all manner of people which is why this time around I have embraced Pisky in order to give my fans something different,” he said.
