Malawi musician Ritaa dares Rihanna: Releases ‘Down Down’

Malawi songstress Ritaa has released Down Down a song she says will prove she is the indomitable Queen in the country.

Ritaa hit the headlines when she released Chapatali which secured close to 100,000 downloads and thousands of live-stream, a feat never achieved before by any Malawian female musician.

Down Down continues with the emerald songstress’ nuptials for romantic songs central in her first single.

“People will consider Down Down as a prequel to Chapatali. But unlike the latter, my creative direction on Down Down is something softer. I had couples on ballroom dance in the background of my mind with this one” she explained.

Down Down has a calm dancehall-rhythm, a trend that is seen in Rihanna’s Work and resonates with Drake’s Controlla.

“The comparison will be inevitable especially with the dancehall element in the three songs. But I recorded Down Down early January before Rihanna’s Work which dropped in February. Also, almost all my songs have a dancehall fusion much as the R’n’B comes out as predominant” clarified Ritaa.

“But it is particularly encouraging to perform a song with a touch that can be equated to such great artists considering the efforts and investments that artists like Rihanna and Drake put into their work” she added.,

With the comparison to Controlla and Work likely to be unavoidable, will Down Down be Ritaa’s international breakthrough.

“Only time will tell” she cheekily responded.

Down Down features ProVoice one of Malawi’s celebrated dancehall artists. Produced by BFB of Exclusive Records, the song can be downloaded at: http://m.malawi-music.com/download/index.php?song=5308

Why do we rate our artist based on number of free downloads the system is broken so much money is lost In the media industry people in other countries would have made USD100000 alone on those downloads which is close to K75 million. It’s time the system shifted make the entertainment industry serious business so that these guy can benefit from their labour. 100000 downloads is not a joke and they pocket close to nothing.
