Malawi Night, Search for a Star contestants perform with live band

The tides continue getting high for contestants in the on-going Sunbird Search for a Star as they are now required to perform using live band during fourth eviction show this weekend in Blantyre.

Unlike the usual performances in which the contestants use recorded instruments, this time around, they have to prove their mantle using live instruments in the race that had started with 24 faces but now left with nine-as other four stand to be evicted over the weekend.

Dubbed Malawi Night, the fourth eviction to be held at Sunbird Mount Soche Hotel in Blantyre, the contestants are expected to do renditions of Malawi’s old-time hit songs like Chitukutuku, Sometimes I wonder by Kalimba band among others.

Spicing up the event will be the renowned acoustic duo of Edgar ndi Davis popularly called as Anyamata Ozelezeka.

Giddes Chalamanda to perform

Old time acoustic guitarist, Giddes Chalamanda is also expected to move the audience with his popular hits like Linnie, Bufalo soja and Napolo.

Flow stepper dancers are also expected to spice up the show.

Project Coordinator, Anthony Kafuwa said in an interview the event would highly be characterized with Malawian music, hence dubbed Malawi Night.

“The contestants will be backed by a live band and are currently rehearsing at the music club at HHI. This is one of the exciting things about this year’s show. Its a moment they have to prove their singing ability using live band and stage management experience,” said Kafuwa.

Formally named E-Wallet, the competition has been adopted by Sunbird Tourism with this year’s winner expected to pocket K500,000 as a grand prize with a second and third runners up getting K300,000 and K200,000 respectively.
