Malawi Police arrest 2 over K22mil cash theft at SFFRM

Malawi Police in Ntcheu have arrested a sales clerk and a watchman for  Smallholder Farmers Fertiliser Revolving Fund of Malawi (SFFRM)  in connection with the theft of K22.7 million cash from the shop.

Ntcheu police spokesperson Gift Matewere identified the clerk as Soya Chimenya and the watchman as Charles Laison.

Matewere said thugs broke into the shop on Thursday and took away all the money from a safe.

He said the watchman was discovered on Friday morning with both and hands tightly tied.

Chimenya comes from Chabuka village in Chief Kaduya’s area in Phalombe while Laison hails from Kasiya village in Chief Kwataine’s area in Ntcheu.

In Ntchisi, the police have arrested an Admarc official, a police officer and a truck driver for conniving with a businessman to steal 100 bags of fertilizer meant for farm input programme.

Ntchisi police spokesperson Gladson Bumpha said the businessman, who runs an agro business in Ntchisi, Chikondi  Kalulu allegedly gave the Admarc official, George Kambwiri K175000, police officer Steven Katundu, K50000, the driver Dalitso Chafikira, K30,000 and an assistant driver K20,000 and managed to diver the fertilizer from the Admarc depot to the shop of Kalulu at Ntchisi boma.

Corruption and Theft are the greatest enemies of Malawi. We are always fond of complaining and oftain get surprised as to why Malawi is deteriorating and not developing.Well we shouldn’t. We are a sick nation infested with lazy people who want to get money through any means at all cost even when it means killing people in the process of doing so.
