Malawi Police arrest family for allegedly trying to sell off child

Police in Blantyre have arrested a married couple for allegedly trying to sell off a seven year old boy to raise money in order to construct a descent house.

Limbe deputy spokesperson Betsai Zembeneko said Godfrey Kampira, 57 and his wife Catherane Pearson, 34 are in police custody and have since been charged with child trafficking.

Zembeneko said the couple confessed they wanted to sell their child to build a house.

He said the prospective buyer tipped off police hence the arrest. Zembeneko said the couple got married last year after divorcing their first respective spouses and the woman brought into her new home four children one of which was put up on sale.

The police said the couple will appear in court after the new year festive holiday next week.

I fail to understand why women opt to enter into another marriage subsequent to divorce and more especially with a bunch of kids. Is it rocket science to figure out that survivability of second marriage is minimal, more especially when there are children involved?.
And what is this obsession by Malawians always emulating South Africans.? Recently a young mother has been arrested for allegedly tempting to sell her nine months old baby on social media Gumtree.

Long gone are the years when having many kids was prestigious! Its an expensive venture now!
Long gone are the days when there used to be markets for kids! Its illegal now!
Long gone are the times when; if you tried to sell off a kid, the uninterested buyer would just decline politely. You are reported to police now!
People need to know that having many kids breeds madness and desperation!
The economy bites you hard and you begin to think the unthinkable! Look at you now: You wanted to sell off one kid and failed hence arrested?
What a way to start a new year!
