Malawi Police arrest man, 55 for sex assualt on 3-year child

Malawi Police in Zomba is keeping in custody a 55 year old man for defiling a 3 year old child.

Confirming the development Thursday, Zomba Police Spokesperson Patricia Sipiliano said Layilo Gowani was arrested on allegations that he defiled a child contrary to section 138 (1) of the penal code.

Sipiliano said it was reported that on November 8 2016, the victim went to visit her friend and on her way back, Gowani dragged her into his house where he defiled her.

The suspect later gave the victim one mango to silence her.

Upon arriving home, the girl revealed the matter to her parents who reported the matter to Chingale Police Post.

Chingale Police referred the victim to Chingale Health Centre for medical examination where it was confirmed that the victim was really defiled.

Gowani will appear in court soon to answer defilement charges.

He hails from Wisiki Village Traditional Authority (T/A) Mlumbe in Zomba District.
