Malawi Police arrest man for cutting foreskin of boy without consent of parents
A 75 year old man in Dedza is in police custody for circumcising a young boy at a Yao initiation camp without the consent of his parents.
Dedza police assistant publicist Cassim Manda said Matukukutu Dandawiri is still at Dedza police and has since been charged with unlawful wounding and abduction.
“What happened is that Mr Dandawiri’s son was being initiated at the initiation camp so this boy, knowing nothing about rules and regulations of initiation camps, went to visit his friend at the initiation camp. Mr Dandawiri called a ngaliba who came and circumcised him, and remains at the initiation camp.”
He said the boy was circumcised on July 19 when his parents were away.
Upon arrival, the father was angry that Dandawiri circumcised his child with his consent and lodged a complaint with the police.
It is not known when Dandawiri will appear in court.

Even WITH parental consent, healthy normal body parts should be protected by law. Informed ADULTS can decide for themselves if they want to give up the best part.
Why is parental consent relevant for a non-therapeutic amputation of healthy normal sexual parts? Medical ethics dictates that proxy (parental) consent for any intervention is ethical IF waiting for the patient’s own informed consent would lead to net harm, and WHEN less-destructive options are exhausted. Cutting healthy normal genitals fails this test decidedly.
