Malawi Police arrest Mangochi teacher for sex assualt on Std 7 learner

A 23-year old primary school teacher in the lakeshore district of Mangochi is under police custody for allegedly defiling a standard seven pupil.

Jailed for sex crimes

Mangochi Police deputy spokesperson Amina Tepani Daudi has identified the suspect as Martin Kalima who has been defiling the 15 year-old girl since January 2, 2017 at Wimame F.P School in the district.

Daudi said  in December 2016 the teacher started proposing the victim to be his sexual partner but the girl refused but the suspect kept on proposing to her and that early January this year the girl accepted because she was threatened to make her fail exams.

The police publicist said Kalima thereafter took the pupil to his house the same day and defiled her and that the act has been happening for several times at his house.

“The suspect could do it sometimes at the victim’s house until on January 28, 2017 the girl’s mother caught them doing the evil act in her house. The mother eventually reported the matter to the head teacher who summoned both of them and reported the issue to Namalaka Police Post.

“Medical report from Namalaka Health Centre confirmed that the victim has been defiled several times. He was arrested and will appear before court to answer the charge of defilement which is contrary to section
138 of Penal code.

“The Police is therefore urging the general public to stop such evil act because it poses a threat to many girls and it’s really worrisome because a teacher is supposed to be a good example to his pupils instead of taking them as his  own children, he is at forefront engaging in sexual acts with them”, urges Daudi.

Martin hails from Tchaula Village Traditional Authority (T.A) Mwambo in Zomba district.

Well done school Principal and Malawian Police, we have to root out this evil people who don’t respect our school children’s life and future. By looking at girl’s age it mean the child was raped. A child can’t decide to have sex therefore we have to protect them will all means. ViVa Malawian government.

If orders by the president can not be challenged, as Mr Kaphale says, does it mean the president has absolute powers? There are there branches of government and these are supposed to check on each other. What the courts are doing is to check the executive branch and this is not strange. The framers of the constitution put that for the purpose of avoiding one person making decisions that can hurt the citizens just like how it was in one party era. If what Kaphale is saying is true, it means a decision one person can mess up the whole… Read more »
