Malawi Police arrest murder suspects  in Lilongwe, 3 criminals nabbed in Balaka and recovers stolen items worth K11mil plus vehicle

Malawi Police in Lilongwe have arrested Stephano Dzonzi 24 and Benjamin Malefula 25 for being suspected of murdering LASEC Limited Accountant and stealing his vehicle recently in Lilongwe.

Lilongwe Police Station Public Relations Officer, Inspector Kingsley Dandaula said the two are suspected and another person who is still at large of gruesomely killing Cydreck Chibamutika Lora 64, at Masamba village along the Malawi Defence Force Air Wing to Kasiya road.

The Police Publicist said the deceased who hailed from Karonga district drove to work in the morning of February 15, 2017 and later after work proceeded to his maize garden located near the Natural Resources College (NRC).

“The man never returned home and the matter was reported to Police, on the next day February 16, his body was found in a maize garden at Masamba village in a pool of blood.

“On February 21 the Police recovered the deceased person’s motor vehicle, Mazda Demio registration number LL 3634 with various personal documents at Limbikani Botomani house in Mchinji district.

Botomani who is village headman Chiwekaweka in the area of Traditional Authority (TA) Mavwere was also arrested but revealed that the vehicle was brought to his home in his absence and without his knowledge by his cousins- the suspects.

According to the suspects, the deceased person was killed over land issues he bought from the suspects some years ago.

“It is alleged that the suspects wanted their land back so that they could sell it to other people at a higher offer but the deceased refused to give it back,” said the Police.

The suspects, Dzonzi hails from Ngolokoto village, TA Wimbe in Kasungu, Malefula hails from Chatambalala village TA Malili in Lilongwe. They are expected to answer murder charge contrary to section 209 of the penal code.

Meanwhile in Blantyre,Police have arrested three suspected criminals and recovered items worth
over K11 Million.

The three suspects are Fabiano Chisale aged 42, Peter Chiwaya 37 and Gift Kadali aged 25.

According to Balaka Police Deputy Publicist Constable Gerald Sumaili, the three have been on the run since December last year.

“They are suspected to have stollen 11 Solar Panels, two Water Pumps and Yamaha DT Motorcycle belonging to Nankhono Irrigation Scheme and CADECOM Offices at Ulongwe in Balaka” said Sumaili.

Sumaili said the three are currently in police custody and will appear in court soon to answer charges of Theft which is contrary to Section 278 of the Penal Code.

Chisale and Kadali hails from T,A Kalembo while Chiwaya hails from Khoviwa Village, T/A Chikumbu in Mulanje District.
