Malawi Police have arrested the“ prime suspect” who chopped off private parts of Tendai Malunga of Beula village in the area of Traditional Authority Kapichi in the district.
According to Thyolo police officer in-charge, deputy commissioner Josiah Kanthiti , Police arrested 75 year old Sabston Folija of Shala village whom they are treating as “ the prime suspect.”
Folija earlier reported to police that he accommodated the victim in his house but was not aware that Malunga was attacked.
However, deputy police commissioner Kanthiti said investigations have given the law enforcers “ a clue which led to the arrest of Folija.”
He said: “ Officers who were sent to his house found some blood on the mat where both the accused and the victim slept.”
Kanthiti added that during interrogation, Folija admitted to have shared a mat with the victim who was in good health, but argued that he had no knowledge about the incident.
Police have pressed charges of grievous harm to Folija which is contrary to section 238 of the penal code.
Malunga is receiving treatment at Thyolo district hospital.
