Malawi Police arrest six for robbery with violence in Lilongwe

Lilongwe Police is keeping in custody six suspects for attempting robbery with violence in the city during the night of 21 to 22 July, 2013.

Assistant Police Publicist for Lilongwe Police Station, Kingsley Dandaula said on Tuesday that the suspects went to the house of 35 year old Mdala Labson who is a business man residing in Area47/1 with the intention to steal where they were seen by the watchman.

“The suspects went to Labson’s house with intention to steal, fortunately they were seen by the watchman.

“Five of the suspects managed to run away by climbing the fence, but one suspect failed to climb as a result he assaulted the guard,” said Dandaula.robbery

He explained that the guard had to ring the whistle for a help which prompted the police to come and arrest the suspect who was then taken to Lingadzi police for interrogation.

Dandaula said upon interrogation the suspect revealed the other five suspects and the police managed to arrest them.

He further added that the suspects are still in police custody at Lingadzi pending further investigations and among the suspects there also habitual suspects who have been terrorizing in different areas of the city.

Police spokesman identified the suspects as Saidi Binali 20, Malibwana village, T/A Kalembo Balaka, Mabvuto Chitika 31, Salima village, T/A Nkanda Mulanje, Mphatso Kaitano 19, Chikumbu village, T/A Ganya Ntcheu.

Others are Foster John 35, Thuluwa village, T/A Kadewere Chiradzulu, Gavin Mussa 38, Tamani village, T/A Nkhumba Phalombe and Jerome Mtegha 24 T/A Chikulamayembe Rumphi.

The suspects will appear before the court soon to answer charges of robbery with violence.—Malawi News Agency
