Malawi police intensify a hunt for murder suspects

Police in Malawi’s Easter district of Balaka are hunting for unknown criminals who have killed a watchman after stealing 22 chickens, 16 turkeys at Andiamo location at the house of Mr Hazarat Pirrani where the deceased Magulaye Paundi was working as a watchman.

Balaka police spokesperson sub inspector Joseph Sauka, says Joseph Chika, a colleague of the deceased told the police the incident happened during the night of July 22 when he noticed that some chickens were found outside the kraals before the usual time.

“This made him to make a follow up and it’s when he found that the chickens’ kraals were broken into and at this time the deceased was nowhere to be seen. He together with the deceased’s children started hunting for the deceased who was later found lying dead in a garden within the fence,” says Sauka.police image

Sauka says the post-mortem conducted at Balaka District hospital revealed that death was caused due to internal breeding after being hit in the stomach and head.

Meanwhile, Police in the district is appealing to the general public to tip them if they found anyone in possession chickens and turkeys suspected to have been stolen.

The deceased who is about 60 years of age was coming from Lupanga village, Senior Chief Nsamala, in Balaka district.
