Malawi Police nab 6 men for robbing K15.8m assorted items

Police in Malawi’s southern district of Blantyre have arrested six men they believe broke into a communal house in Naperi Township in the commercial city of Blantyre where they stole various valuable items worth K15.8 million.

The occupants of the house are expatriates who are constructing the railway line in Mwanza and Neno districts.

The police have identified suspects, who stole the items during the night of March 7 and 8 this year, as Yohane Daimano, aged 31 from Mbera village, Traditional authority Kachonga in Balaka district, Pilirani Grant, 27, from Ngomiwa village, Traditional authority Nkalo in Chiradzulu district, Amos Ulungo aged 24 from Mapando village, Traditional authority Chimaliro in Thyolo district and  Antony Elias Mpasu aged 35 from Nyachukadza village, Traditional authority Malemia in Nsanje distric.

Others are Monia James Yohane aged 22 from Nthiwatiwa village, Traditional authority Ndindi in Salima district and Christopher James.arrested

According to the recorded statement from Geotechnical Engineering Manager of SRK Group, Zimbabwean Archibald Gwata, 46, told the police that the robbers invaded the house and attacked three security guards before they broke into the house and injured the house servant, Thomas Phiri in the process.

The suspects further broke into other rooms where they stole the other items belong to the occupants of the house.

The law enforcers have so far managed to recover some of the items worth K2.1million.

According to the statement, personal items for Gwata were Samsung galaxy cell phone, 4 flash drives, Orange / black k-way satchel, MP3 music player, Zimbabwean driving licence, Bank cards Barclays (zim) standard (Namibia), K40,000 cash, $420, MT500, EM50 and citizen wrist watch.

While property for SRK Group include Nokia 7100 cell phone, HP Laptop computer, Olympic TG 310 camera, Keys for room 4-12 Mkwinda camp zalewa.

The suspects also stole items from Reena Baijor which included Lenovo laptop with its bag and charger, Nokia E75 cell phone, Canon camera, K35, 000.00 cash and Gold chains.

Other items stolen from the others include Panasonic water proof video recorder and a bag, HP Envy Laptop with its bag, Samsung Galaxy cell phone, 18K golden chain, Serbian passport, One Zimbabwean ID, Australia driving licence, International driving licence, Vehicle licence, 4K golden chain, Wallet contained K30, 000.00, $500 and 200 Euro, HP Probook Laptop computer, Nokia Basic cell phone, Galaxy cell phone, Silver chain, Oakley sun glasses, Packard Bell Laptop, K 18, 000.00 cash

While the recovered K2.1 million items include Gold wrist watch, Diamond wrist watch, Silver wrist watch, 2 Nokia cell phones, Motor vehicle Jerk, bunch of 81 keys used for house breaking, among others and investigations are still underway, according to the police.
