Malawi Police nab man for attempting to kidnap Zodiak journo’s child
Police in Lilongwe are keeping in custody a man whose identify couldn not be independently verified for attempting to kidnap a baby belonging to a Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS) journalist Josephy Mwanoka.
The incident happened Monday 11th November, 2013.
Mwanoka confirmed with Nyasa Times :“My wife was in the kitchen cooking so she left the baby with the maid in the maid’s house since she stays in the same compound for the baby to enjoy some fresh air. The gate was locked as we usually do so the guys had to jump the fence and pick the baby while she was still asleep but the time the kidnapper was going out, neighbours suspected something as I was on air (night shift) they followed the man. He drop the baby then started to escape but he was caught , the other two guys with him managed to escape.”
He added: “They later called me and when I arrived we took the suspect to Area 3 Police where he was locked up.”
The person qho captured the kidnapper is Precious Zam’mimba.
Mwanoka revealed that he managed to protect the suspect from mob justice as residents demanded for vigilante justice by setting the suspect ablaze.
“People wanted to burn him alive but I refused so that we get to the bottom of it all, I suspect he was sent by someone,” he said.
Police said they were investigating the matter.
