Malawi Police nab teen boy for murder

A 16 year-old boy is in Police custody at Kawale Police Sub-Station in the capital Lilongwe for allegedly murdering his friend.

Assistant Lilongwe Police Publicist Kingsley Dandaula identified the suspect as Francis Juma, from Majoni Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Tsabango in Lilongwe district.

He said the deceased, Martin Kapichira 22, from Chiwalu Village T/A Nankumba of Mangochi district had gone to Ngwenya market at around 7 o’clock in the evening in the company of his sister to buy airtime credit.

“While at the market the deceased had a quarrel with four boys who were also at the market by that time. The quarrel erupted over the remarks made by the boys blaming the deceased’s sister on why she was in the market at night,” said Dandaula.

He said the four boys were saying that the sister was there for prostitution like girls of the area that usually walk in the night.

“Juma stabbed the deceased on the chest with a screwdriver after which Kapichira died on the spot,” he said.

Dandaula said the deceased’s body was referred to Kamuzu Central Hospital for postmortem where it was revealed that he died due to internal injuries.

This happened on 20 April, 2014 in Ngwenya location, Area 24, around the same period Christians were commemorating Easter celebrations.

Juma will appear before court soon to answer charges of murder.
