Malawi Police net man over currency externalising at airport
Kamuzu International Airport police have arrested a 35 year old man on allegations that he was externalising about K4 million.
Airport police spokesperson Sapulani Chitonde alleged Lufeyo Chitukula was caught red handed with SA Rand 90200 which is about K4 million in his hand luggage as he was about to board a plane.
“We asked for documents authorising him to externalise the money but he failed. We have confiscated the money, he is in police custody and will appear in court soon,” said Chitonde.
He however did not say when the suspect will appear in court.
John…that was brilliant. I was also confused with “externalization,” I was like…what the heck is that? To the writers of these articles, please keep it simple….you don’t always have to use “big” words to make your point, especially when you are literally using a “word for word” type of interpretation……e.g. anatulutsa = externalize (hahaha!) that was funny.
To John’s point, use words that people can understand and don’t just make the sh*t up. You lose readers in the process.
And don’t you have editors who can correct this sh*t before publishing. My goodness, we can do better…than externalizing!!!!

I know the guy has a kitchen ware shop in town Lilongwe. For sure amakagula katundu. The bank doesn’t have forex nde mumati akayigule kuti apart from the black market? What does externalise mean? Never heard of that word before. It’s better just to say he was carrying more cash than the required maximum amount of …. than using useless words like ‘externalising’
And why keep him in custody? Osangosunga ndalamazo and take him to court on the appropriate day? Our police cells are bad news, tiyeni tisamangomangana zirizonse. Kukonda kuzunzana kanmtundu kachiMalawi.

But why arrest someone travelling to south Africa with 90000 rand. What does the law say. A minimum of 5000 dollars in cash you can externalise. Even in local currency.
