Malawi Police officer Chilumpha feared dead: Swept by Shire River

An officer from the Malawi Police Service (MPS) Sergeant Vasco Chilumpha is feared dead after he was swept away by Shire River at Liwonde Barrage in Machinga.
An eye witness at the scene Alton Manuel told Nyasa Times that the incident happened on Sunday morning when the officer left his home to the shores of Shire River to clean his combat boots.

“The officer went to clean his combat boots close to Liwonde Barrage. But suddenly I just saw him being washed away by the running water from Shire River. The police was alerted and came to conduct a search but to no avail. At the moment they are just appealing to the general public along the shores of the river to notify them whenever they see a dead body,” Manuel told Nyasa Times.
