Junior staff at the hospital planned the peaceful protests to force the government transfer the district health officer Dr M. Mwale whom they are accusing of gross mismanagement and corruption.

Sources at the hospital said the planned demonstrations were set on Wednesday when the police picked up one of the ring leaders on an unrelated charges.

“Dr Mwale has grossly run down the hospital, he is very corrupt, the hospital spends a lot of money in paying to garages and catering services,” said  Nyasa Times source.

The junior staff says the DHO flatly refuses to assist members of staff when they are bereaved.

Ministry of Health spokesperson Adrian Chikumbe asked for more time before commenting on the issue.

However, the protests come barely a week after a health civil rights body, Youth Health Network petitioned the minister of Health Peter Kumpalume to remove Dr Mwale and four other top officials accusing them of corruption and maladministration.

Other officials include the district medical officer, the principal administrator, the deputy district environment officer.

DICTATORSHIP .. Malawians have seen this before I am sure .
Is Malawi a DEMOCRACY? Or just a pretense of democracy !..
WHY DO MALAWIAN AND AFRICAN LEADERS MAKE THE SAME MISTAKES
AND EXPECT A DIFFERENT RESULT!..

ITS A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE MALAWIANS WILL MAKE UP AND SAY

People are jealousy when others work hard. Leave the DHO and his team to work. Lilongwe has always been a difficult district and the junior staff always want to have things their way and not to follow rules. Bravo police this country needs to have some.discipline.

Very sad that the police is arresting the innocent people insteady of investigating the root cause of the problem. Are the authorities aware that Dr mwale and his Lieuftenants are to corrupt, cashgaters and thieves? Should we really conclude that he is really being shielded by the DPP Government official as he claims to have some connection? Dr mwale and his staff are killing many people due to their cashgate activities. Shame to the government.
