Malawi powerful civil society PAC goes to the polls

Malawi’s powerful civil society, the Public Affairs Committee (PAC) goes to the polls on Tuesday to elect a new executive committee that would ensure checks and balances for President Peter Mutharika’s administration outside parliament.

PAC leadership: Going to polls

The quasi religious body spokesperson Father Peter Mulomole has said all positions will be up for grabs.

“The new team will arrange to meet President Peter Mutharika to discuss the prevailing problems,” said Father Mulomole.

PAC is also expected to hold an all inclusive indaba for politicians from both the ruling and opposition, economists, journalists and other stakeholders because of what they said prolonged absence of President Mutharika.

Mutharika also appointed a committee to meet PAC officials but their relations had been strained that they never met. Sources at PAC have said they are on the lookout that the government might infiltrate PAC through planting of their candidates during the elections.
