Malawi President Mutharika criticised on social media over DPP nepotism

Malawians have taken up on social media to accuse President Peter Mutharika of continued appointing Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) cronies’ relatives and wives into top positions in government.

Mutharika: DPP nepotism
Mutharika: DPP nepotism

Mutharika said at a rally on Friday that he appoints people on merit not because of their patriotism to the DPP, tribe or region.

“The minister of Finance, the key ministry in my government is from the north, the Chief Justice is from the north, the director of the Anti Corruption Bureau is from the north,” said Mutharika.

However a debate raging on Facebook shows Mutharika is alarmingly appointing relatives of DPP cronies into top positions at the expense of tax payers.

The people give an example of Labour Minister Henry Mussa whose wife, Agrina has been appointed High Commissioner to Kenya.

Mussa’s third daughter, Janet, is deputy ambassador to Zimbabwe.

The Malawians are also giving an example of. Francis Mbilizi, a DPP crony who is chairperson of Lilongwe Water Board, chairperson of Umodzi Park, owners of Bingu International Conference Centre.

Rosa Mbilizi  is deputy commissioner at Malawi Revenue Authority and is also board member of Malawi Olympic Committee.

Mbilizi’s blood sister, Mrs Janet Kamanga has won a K5 billion contract to supply metres at Escom, according to the reports and she has also a contract with Lilongwe Water Board where his brother is board chair.

Trade and Industry minister Joseph Mwanamvekha’s brother Reverend Mwanamvekha is now First Secretary at Kenya embassy whilst George Chaponda, minister of Agriculture has a dozen relatives, his wife’s relatives and friends in embassies.

Son and and daughters of ministers and DPP officials are also in embassies.

And most of top government positions are taken by people from Lhomwe tribe.

The ACB Director is not from the North. Only that his name sounds northern. His father came from NB and his mother from RSA. He was born and has lived in BT all his life and his home is BT as he has never been to any village in NB. He himself claims he is from BT and not anywhere else. do not cheat the Nation Big Man Wamkulu.

So Peter does not know his appointees but just looks at names?

When Bingu died in 2012, Mbwenus and Chewas gathered at LL Golf Club to ululate, celebrate, drink, dance for the demise. We Lhomwes in the civil service and other public sectors suffered quite a lot and at this time the Midnight Six were being persecuted for being a Lhomwe and DPP. In 2014, God listened to our cries hence APM taking the leadership mantle. Things changed and we are now back in the forefront. In Area 24, 34, 23 and 25, Chewas made a plan to chase all those from the South and North could Chakwera become the president. This… Read more »

THIS SITUATION CAN ONLY BE REVERSED IF THOSE POCKETS OF VOTERS FROM THE TWO CONSTITUENCIES IN KARONGA,CHITIPA AND LIKOMA SO TOO IN NKHOTAKOTA AND NTCHEU STOP BLINDLY SUPPORTING THESE LOMWES DURING 2019 GENERAL ELECTIONS.OF COURSE THE LOWER SHIRE AS WELL.LOMWES ON THEIR OWN CAN NEVER AND WILL NEVER PRODUCE A PRESIDENT AND THAT IS WHY ONE BJ FLOPPED.THESE UNGRATEFUL LOMWES ARE TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THE OTHER TRIBES.TIT FOR TAT CAN BE A FAIR GAME. IT IS A BIG INSULT TO MENTION 3 PEOPLE FROM THE NORTH AGAINST THE MANY LOMWES IN GOVERNMENT AND EMBASSY POSITIONS.BAKILI MULUZI AND JOYCE BANDA WERE… Read more »

PETER MUTHARIKA’s LED GOVERNMENT IS STINKINGLY NEPOTISTIC. I HAVE SAID IT TIME AND AGAIN THAT A SURVEY MUST BE INSTITUTED TO ESTABLISH THOSE INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE BEEN APPOINTED INTO SENIOR POSITIONS SINCE MUTHARIKA TOOK POWER IN 2014. THEY MUST INCLUDE PEOPLE APPOINTED AS BOARD MEMBERS, CEOs OF STATUTORY CORPERATIONS, DIPLOMATS IN EMBASSIES, CONSTITUTIONAL BODIES, AND IN GOVT MINISTRIES AND DEPARTMENTS (FROMP4 AND ABOVE). YOU WILL BE SHOCKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TODAY DPP SECRETARY GENERAL KUDONTONI AT A RALLY IN CHITIPA COULD ONLY MENTION ABOUT NICK MASEBO (FORMER MP FOR CHITIPA) AS HOLDING IMPORTANT POSITION IN DPP LED GOVT. ARE YOU SURE WE CAN… Read more »
