Many people would look forward to similar messages on religious holidays for Muslims and Hindus.

Religious public holidays cannot only be for Christians. If Malawi is a secular state ( that is, it has no state religion) then there should be no discrimination between religious holidays. They should all be observed by the state (declaring the days public holidays and special message from the President). Otherwise, they shouldn’t be observed by the state but by the religious groups concerned.
