Malawi public falling primary school walls serously injure 2 learners

Two learners at Nthulu Primary School, a public school in Dedza are in hospital after they were critically injured on Friday after their class room walls fell on them.

Primary Education Advisor (PEA) for Chimbiya Zone in Dedza confirmed the incident, saying other learners were treated as out of patients at Dedza District Hospital.

He said the classroom walls of standards one, two, three, and four fell due to heavy winds in the area.

The PEA said the primary school is one of the oldest in the country and might have outlived its life and is now a threat to lives of children.

Mkutumula said just last week, some classroom roofs were blown off due to the same heavy winds but no one was injured that is why the incident never attracted newspaper headlines.

Ministry of Education is facing heavy budgetary cuts due to ever dwindling economy.
