Malawi Queens beat Scotland 62-35: Commonwealth Games

Malawi Queens netball side finished their Pool A fixture  on a high Tuesday everning by beating hosts of the 2014 Glasgow XX Commonwealth Games , Scotland by 62-35.

The Malawi side can no longer realistically challenge for the championship, but just the third place in the Pool A after their 50-81 loss to fourth-ranked  Jamaica Monday night.

Coach Mary Waya expressed relief for winning the last Pool match against 11th ranked  Scotland.

“It’s a good feeling to finish with a win and beating the hosts its fantastic,” said Waya.

She saif her charges lost to teams that are above Malawi on world ranking- world champions New Zealand and Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls.

She has since called for netball investment for Malawi to  break into the top-four band.

Waya hailed Airtel Malawi for sponsoring the Queens and appealed to the coorporate world  to emulate Airtel in complementing government efforts in sponsoring the Queens.

Malawi were in Pool A alongside Scotland, New Zealand, St Lucia, Northern Ireland and Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls. Pool B comprises Australia, England, South Africa, Trinidad and Tobago and Wales.

Top two teams from the groups will meet in the next stage.
