Malawi Queens camp for New Zealand : Beatrice Mpinganjira dropped

Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) has released the names of players to undergo a two-week training camp in preparation of World Fast Five Series to be held in New Zealand early next month.

But regular player Beatrice Mpinganjira is conspicuously missing on the 13-member list released on Tuesday by the netball association.

However Mpinganjira’s teammate Lissie Akidu has got the nod after being a peripheral figure for the position of attackers and Bridget Kumwenda controversially sidelined for 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games has been recalled.

Another new face, who has been called up for the camping, is Diamonds’ Grace Chazungulira.

NAM General Secretary Carol Bapu said the team would camp on October 23 to start preparations for the tournament.

Bapu said the 12 days of camping would be enough for the players to tune up for the tournament having rehearsed with GOtv Netball Club Championship in the past two weeks.

“We are confident that the players would not struggle to bond because they are fit,” Bapu said.

She said the team would leave for the tournament on November 5 ahead of the competition’s starting two days later.

Mary Waya has been maintained as coach to be assisted by her fellow netball legendary shooter Conis Mhone.

The following is the full list of players:

Shooters; Mwayi Kumwenda (Tactics NewZealand), Sindi Simtowe (Complex Tigresses), Jane Chimaliro (Civo Nets), Grace Chazungulira (Diamonds), Cecilia Mtukule (Blue Eagles).

Attackers; Takondwa Lwazi (Blue Eagles), Bridget Kumwenda (Diamonds),Tina Kamzati (Civonets), Lissie Akidu (Complex).

Defenders; Caroline Mtukule (Diamonds), Towera Vikhumbo (Diamonds), Grace Mwafulirwa (Complex), Laureen Ngwira (Complex).
