Malawi Queens final squad named: Morale low in camp

The Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) has released a final 10-member Malawi Queens squad which is expected to leave on Sunday for New Zealand to take part in this year’s Fast5 Netball World Tournament.

The squad, which has no  five key vastly experienced players in the name of the evergreen shooter Mwawi Kumwenda, Beatrice Mpinganjira, Joana Kachilika, Tina Kamzati and Cecilia Mtukule  has been trimmed from the 13- member players who were in camp to 10.

NAM has entrusted their confidence in Sindi Simutowe to lead the slaughtering mission
alongside Caroline ‘Ayuda’ Ngwira, Towera ‘Tobe’ Vinkhumbo, Jane Chimaliro, Grace Mwafulirwa, Takondwa Lwazi, Bridget Kumwenda and Lauren Ngwira.

New names in the squad for the first time are MTL Queens Martha Dambo and Grace Chazungulira.

According to Nam, the team will depart Blantyre for Lilongwe on Saturday before their journey to New Zealand on Sunday.

The team will be coached by Mary Waya to be assisted by Conniss Mhone.

However, many netball followers expressed their dissatisfaction on Nam’s decision leaving
out the vastly experienced Kachilika and Mpinganjira.

The team will be leaving for the big tournament with low spirits following news that Nam only paid them K40,000 to each player out of K180,000 their allowances for the past three tournaments they participated in Fiji, New Zealand and Scotland.

The players told Nyasa Times that they were demoralised
