NAM General Secretary Carol Bapu confirmed the development and said her association is just waiting for Chawinga-Kalua’s response.

“Indeed we have offered Peace Chawinga-Kalua the position of head coach for Malawi national netball team but she is yet to respond,” said Bapu.

Former coach Mary Waya Ng’oma has since been demoted to the position of Vice Coach.

She is also yet to respond to NAM on her appointment.

According to Bapu, one of the targets set for the new coach is to help the Queens move from position five on the world netball ranking to a better position.

“We want to be among the best four in the world. As you know we have been on position five for a long time and we need to move a step further” she said.

“We really expect a lot from her because we want her to show us that she has the capabilities to take the team further” added the NAM General Secretary.

If Chawinga Kalua accepts the offer, her first assignment will be the Diamond Netball challenge which starts on21st June in Durban, South Africa before heading to Namibia to participate at the Africa Netball Championship.

Hardson, you have made my day with your chiTumbuka.

Mary should not be deemed as the irreplaceable! She has served Malawi devotedly both as player and coach. She deserves credit for that. However, Malawi needs more people experienced at that level. Things happen! Who new that we would be missing the Muckrakers column this week? In addition, Mary has of late been more divisive that helpful to the Queens (including poor and politically motivated actions of NAM itself). The Queens needs a figure who can restore motivation and re-unite the players. I am supportive of this appointment. Congratulations Peace.

I WISH YOU ALL THE BEST WADUMBU WANE. REMEMBER WITH GOD EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE. WHAT A GOOD COMBINATION! WE WILL BE WAITING FOR YOU IN DURBAN FOR DIAMOND NETBALL CHALLENGE. TEMWANANI WAKA VOSE VIWENGE WELLO-WELLO.

  9. Anaphi says:

I respect Mary Waya’s contribution to Malawi netball over the past years. It would have been better to give her a post of a technical advisor or any other advisory role than demoting her to be a deputy coach.

  10. opportunist says:

Am happy with this development .Maybe now sanity will prevail in this team. Hoping that the hatred that has rocked this team will reduce which include inviting Mwayi back into the Queenz

  11. wobeba wanga says:

stupid move, you are killing the team. look at what happened to the Frames, when Kinnah was fired and replaced by winayu, look we are not winning anymore. good old days for the frames went with Mr. kinah Phiri. This other dude is doing nothing at all.

  12. Mlangizi says:

My advice to Peace: be brave as you will now be called by all sorts of names – mtumbuka, ozikonda, nepotist. Just do what is right for netball development in Malawi

Well done nam this has bin long overdue with due respect peace deserve it and mary also desrve dat deputy post avawise o de best girls work 2geza for de national cause ndakufirani girls

  14. This is creating divisions in a camp. The best was to retire Mary and hire another deputy for Peace simple.

  15. Jemu.. says:

Stupid move. You cant demote someone from CEO to Deputy CEO and expects her to contribute effectively to the wellbeing of the new CEO? If Mary has failed, then deploy her into another position… team manager et cetera.

  16. ujeni says:

John, Waya was boss of whom? Infact they should sack her, she has failed miserably. give the deputy post to Connis.

  17. ujeni says:

Long overdue, this lady was captain of queens for many years and she has the temperament of a leader unlike Mary Waya. Connis Mhone is also a leader, i was suprised she was deputy to Mary Waya.

Anyway, Peace Chawinga is a proven successful coach.

  18. john says:

Koma why making Waya who was the boss to be deputy?kufuna kudanisa anthuwatu uku.atambala awiri salilira khola limodzi.players will have problems
