Malawi Queens new coach hired Peace Chawinga: Mary Waya demoted
Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) has appointed Peace Chawinga-Kalua as the national netball team coach.
NAM General Secretary Carol Bapu confirmed the development and said her association is just waiting for Chawinga-Kalua’s response.
“Indeed we have offered Peace Chawinga-Kalua the position of head coach for Malawi national netball team but she is yet to respond,” said Bapu.
Former coach Mary Waya Ng’oma has since been demoted to the position of Vice Coach.
She is also yet to respond to NAM on her appointment.
According to Bapu, one of the targets set for the new coach is to help the Queens move from position five on the world netball ranking to a better position.
“We want to be among the best four in the world. As you know we have been on position five for a long time and we need to move a step further” she said.
“We really expect a lot from her because we want her to show us that she has the capabilities to take the team further” added the NAM General Secretary.
If Chawinga Kalua accepts the offer, her first assignment will be the Diamond Netball challenge which starts on21st June in Durban, South Africa before heading to Namibia to participate at the Africa Netball Championship.

Hardson, you have made my day with your chiTumbuka.
Mary should not be deemed as the irreplaceable! She has served Malawi devotedly both as player and coach. She deserves credit for that. However, Malawi needs more people experienced at that level. Things happen! Who new that we would be missing the Muckrakers column this week? In addition, Mary has of late been more divisive that helpful to the Queens (including poor and politically motivated actions of NAM itself). The Queens needs a figure who can restore motivation and re-unite the players. I am supportive of this appointment. Congratulations Peace.

I respect Mary Waya’s contribution to Malawi netball over the past years. It would have been better to give her a post of a technical advisor or any other advisory role than demoting her to be a deputy coach.
Am happy with this development .Maybe now sanity will prevail in this team. Hoping that the hatred that has rocked this team will reduce which include inviting Mwayi back into the Queenz
