Police publicist in Chiradzulu, Victoria Mwanza identified the man as Mackson Makoka who hails from Maulana village in chief Mpama’s area in Chiradzulu.

Mwanza said the daughter, Chimwemwe Mawala went to the family garden to cut a sugarcane but this did not please her stepfather who severely beat her up for cutting down the sugarcane for consumption without his authority.

The police officer said after the beating, she was severely injured and was on Monday taken to a health centre where she was treated as an out patient.

However, on Tuesday her condition worsened and died when she arrived at the hospital.

Postmortem, according to police, showed she died of fractured skull.

In Dowa, it was the opposite. Police have arrested an 18 year old boy for beating to death his 44 year old biological father according to a report on Malawi NewsNow.

Dowa police publicist Richard Kaponda confirmed the arrest o Lewis Kachigamba on suspicion that he beat to death his father Genesis Kachigamba.

Kaponda said over the weekend, the father picked up a quarrel with his wife and the son because he was very drunk and came home where he allegedly insulted his wife and his son.

Lewis is said to have watched as his father insulted his mother, but lost his temper and started beating him until he died.

A post-mortem revealed that Genesis died of internal bleeding.

Lewis – from Topazi village in chief Msakambewa’s area in Dowa – was set to appear in court soon on murder charges.

How does one clobber a 12 year old helpless girl to the point of breaking her skull for sugarcane or whatever? You see, if poverty, abuse or any form of nkhanza is all you have known since the begining of time, you are more likely to become the same. Indeed, poverty is the worst form of mental slavery! . . . That sugarcane field and contents therein, are family property, and you mean the members have no right to eat even a single cane? Mhhhhh! . . .… Read more »
