Sources disclosed that the thieves went to the house of one of the bank’s regional managers’ and forced him to drive them using the bank’s car to the bank.

“It was almost mid-night when they arrived at the bank with the boss,” said a source.

The robbers then forced the official to open the bank where they stole the money.

Ironically, reports indicates that the money had just been brought into the bank earlier the same day by the country’s central bank, the Reserve Bank of Malawi under heavy security.

According to sources alert police intercepted the robbers near the Malawi-Zambia boarder.

No one has been arrested as the thieves are said to have abandoned the vehicle and run away by foot. Police could not immediately divulge any information on the attack and the arrests.
