Malawi rotten maize probe through- Minister
Malawigovernment has completed a probe into the alleged rotting and subsequent disappearance of 30,000 metric tonnes of maize in its Strategic Grain Reserves in the capital Lilongwe.
Information and Civic Education Minister Kondwani Nankhumwa said the government conducted the investigations into the alleged rotten of maize and its disposal at the national silos.
“We are glad to tell the people of Malawi that the investigations are through. Any time, government will come up with a detailed report to the nation the truth of the matter,” he said.
He said Agriculture Minister Allan Chiyembekeza was developing a paper to be presented to cabinet where directions will be made.
Early this year, former President Joyce Banda said some maize rot after it was soaked by rain water following a leakage at the silos.
Instead of destroying the rotten maize, she said the grain was sold to companies that manufacture animal feeds in the country.
