Malawi singers use music to fight abductions, killings of people with albinism
Musicians across the country over the weekend dished out music as way of sensitizing people on the abductions and killings of people with albinism.
Minister of Sports and Youth Grace Chiumia was on Saturday in Mzuzu where the musicians there showed rare talent in composition of the songs to fight the abductions and killings.
“I am extremely impressed with the messages, very clear and well composed,” she said.
Chairman of Musicians Association of Malawi Reverend Chimwemwe Mhango said the musicians thought of contributing to the good cause of the fight against the abductions and killings.
”The Bible is very clear, it tells us that everyone, including people with albinism, were created in the image of God therefore they should not be hunted and killed like chickens,” he said.
In Blantyre, southern region police spokesperson Demester Chigwenembe said music is a very powerful tool to change the mindset.
At least 18 people have been killed and close to 80 persons with albinism harassed in one way or another.
Mulanje South MP Bon Kalindo organised a nude march last week and the ruling party, the Democratic Progressive Party is hunting for him.
Reports indicate the party is using the youth, the cadets, to kill him.
