Malawi stars Mzava, Ng’ambi to miss Chad game

Malawi national football team’s up-and-coming defender Limbikani Mzava will miss the Africa Cup of Nations preliminary round qualifier against Chad on Saturday at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

Mzava is ineligible for the game after receiving marching orders in Nigeria against the Super Eagles in the crucial World Cup qualifier.

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) General Secretary Suzgo Nyirenda said they were aware that the Bloemfontein professional was suspended.

“We knew that Mzava is suspended for the first leg only. He will play in the second leg,” he said.

“That’s why the technical panel felt that he should be part of the squad. This is a new technical panel and he needed to be with teammates.”

In a related development Flames midfield maestro Robert Ng’ambi is doubtful for the crucial game after suffering a knee injury at his South Africa club, Platinum Stars.

Ng’ambi started light training with the squad on Wednesday despite arriving in the country on Sunday.

Coach Young Chimodzi said he could not state whether Ng’ambi would play or not.

“He will be assessed to see if he could fit for the game,” Chimodzi said.

However the arrival of Mozambique based professional Moses chavula, Foster Namwera and Chimango Kayira on Wednesday completed the squad.

TP Mazembe professional Joseph Kamwendo, South Africa based Harry Nyirenda, Bloemfomtein Celtic’s sensational striker Gabadinho Mhango and University of Pretoria striker Atusaye Nyondo arrived earlier.
