According to the sponsors of the show, Sunbird Tourism, all is set for the search scheduled start at Sunbird Ku Chawe Hotel in Zomba.

“Preparations are going on well and come Monday we will commence the star search as promised,” said Sunbird Tourism public relations manager, Akossa Mphepo.

“If you are a diamond in the rough, our team of experienced judges; comprising Marvin Hanke, Dumisani Mfune and Rudo Nkukupha Chakwera will find you,” she added.

Mphepo told Nyasa Showbiz that her company and producers, E-Wallet, were looking forward to meeting a lot of talented Malawian youth who would like to have their dreams of becoming a renowned musician fulfilled.

She said: “For Sunbird this is very much a part of our CSR [corporate social responsibility] and if nothing else, knowing that we have helped budding musicians grow in terms of skill, stage performance and the like is extremely satisfying”

Meanwhile, according to Mphepo, DBR Casinos have joined Sunbird Tourism in sponsoring the 2014 SSS.

“We would not want to disappoint them, therefore we would like to find the very raw talent within Malawi and polish it to wow audiences during the live shows,” said Mphepo.

The SSS auditions will run until 31 July in all the four regions of the country. From Zomba, the auditioning crew will be in Mangochi at Sunbird Nkopola on 23 July, before going up north to Mzuzu Hotel where auditions will take place on 25 July.

In Lilongwe, auditions will be held at Sunbird Lilongwe on 27 July, while in Salima the team will be at Sunbird Livingstonia Beach on 29 July. Last on the list will be Blantyre where auditions will be at Sunbird Mount Soche on 31 July.

The competition is expected to run for about four months, with the grand finale likely to be held on 5 October at Sunbird Mount Soche where five finalists will compete for the ultimate prize to be announced at the start of the show.

Last year’s winner, Adrian Kwelepeta from Lilongwe went home with K500,000.
