Malawi TNM Super League to close in style

  • Teams to parade in Blantyre on Saturday

The last game in the 2014 TNM Super League will be marked by a solidarity parade by Blantyre-based teams in what will be a rare show of unity and sportsmanship to cap a season in which acts of hooliganism were banished.

The parade is expected to start at the head office of the league sponsors, TNM in Blantyre before proceeding to the match venue, the Kamuzu Stadium where 2014 champions Big Bullets and Blantyre United will play.

TNM Public Relations and Sponsorship Manager Limbani Nsapato said all is set for the closing event at which the champions will also be crowned. An Awards Presentation ceremony, however, will take place at a later date before year end.

“We have finished the 2014 season without any serious incidence of violence or hooliganism. This has been achieved because of the commitment of the fans, the clubs and football administrators to stamp out hooliganism. The joint parade will celebrate that dramatic feat,” said Nsapato.

Nsapato said Big Bullets, Nomads, Azam Tigers and Blantyre United have already confirmed their participation in the parade.

“We have talked to the leadership of teams and they have assured us that they will be there to march in solidarity of the TNM Super League,” he said.

He therefore called on all team supporters to come in large numbers and show people that football is a loving sport.

Apart from team supporters, team players and team representatives are also expected to take part during the parade which will be spiced by Salvation Army brass band among others.

There was no hooliganism not because of whatever you did but because the hooligans have won the trophy
