Malawi to miss hot-shot Gabadinho in World Cup qualifiers

Big Bullets sensational striker Gabadinho Mhango  will miss Malawi’s  World Cup qualifiers against Namibia and Kenya – because he has to take his Junior Certificate Examinations (JSE) in June.

The 19-year-old is unavailable for the home ties against Namibia on the fifth of the month and against Kenya a week later in Blantyre.

His absence will be keenly felt by Malawi, who trail Nigeria on goal difference in Group F with both sides tied on five points.

Coach Edington Ng’onamo said he will try “ several striking options”  starting with a friendly against Zimbabwe on 26 May.

“We need to win our two home ties to stand any chance of reaching the final qualifying round of the 2014 World Cup,” said Ng’onamo.

Mhango scored Malawi’s goal when they beat Namibia 1-0 in Windhoek. The loss left Namibia three points from three games in Group F, two behind leaders Nigeria and second placed Malawi.

Meanwhile, Gaba’s club, Bullets  has promised to support him during his exams.

Bullets general secretary Higger Mkandawire said: He will be supported during his examination period and as usual he will not be available neither during training or games. The same should also apply at the national team.”
