Malawi top league player dies during training

Malawian player Noel Mlelemba who was playing for top league military team Airborne Rangers has died after collapsing during military  team’s training.

According to Malawi Defence Force spokesperson Lt Francis Kakhuta Banda Mlelemba confirmed.

The former Epac United captain was pronounced dead on arrival at Malawi Armed Forces College Hospital.

“MDF is deeply shocked and saddened by the death of Mlelemba. He was a dedicated and hardworking soldier as well as a key player for Airbone Rangers,’ said Lt Kakhuta Banda.

Tsanzo Dalio who played alongside the deceased at Epac described Mlelemba as huge loss.

He has gone too soon. He was a model to young footballers and we have lost a talented player,’ Dalio said.

Former Epac United General Secretary Roy Mdechi said he was shocked by the death of Mlelemba.

“The soccer fraternity has lost a good player and his services will be greatly missed,” Mdechi said.

The late Mlelemba played for Bucks United before joining Epac where he went on to become the team’s captain.

Out of interest, do Malawian players undergo any routine medicals before and during their contracts as players? something worth thinking about.

I partly agree with few of your points raised in this article,

firstly i dont share with u on the point that weak security systems should be blamed on kanyama as the leader but rather on the Malawi police service at large, similaly it wasnt about mkitho but rather a collective effort.

secondly kanyama says his decisions are based on his current health status which I am fully convienced that its his call to decide his current life and not yours and next time check ur limits of thoughts.
