Malawi U-17 blew their big chance in Cosafa semis, lose to Namibia

The Malawi Under-17  football team blew their chance to qualify for the finals of the Cosafa tournament when they  lost 5-6 on post match penalties to Namibia in the semifinals on Friday after the match ended 1-1.

Malawi first scored through Peter Banda 51st minute strike but  Elderly Morgan equalised late for Namibia  – two minutes to play to send the match the spot-kicks.

Namibia faced Malawi in the semifinals after Zambia’s disqualification from the youth tournament.

Malawi u-17 will face Kenya in the third-place match. This will be the second time the two sides will meet in the championship. Malawi thrashed the East African guest team 5-0 to qualify for the semis.

Namibia will face South Africa in the championship final on Snday

South Africa strolled into Sunday’s final against Namibia with a 4-0 win over Kenya.

The final will be played at 12h30 GMT on Sunday, 31 July.
