Urban Music Party (UMP) Festival organizing team shifted the main festival slated for this weekend citing lack of proper venue availability venue and a need to incorporate new more sponsors as some of the factors.
Initially, the main festival was expected to take place at Royal Palm hotel on July 6th but was forced to be shifted to Lucky Luciano’s grounds, Blantyre because of the renovations currently taking place at the hotel.
However, barely a week after announcing the shifting to Lucky Luciano’s, the organizers have been forced to postpone and subsequent shift the main festival to July 27th, 2013 at Blantyre Cultural Centre (Formerly French Cultural Centre)-as new venue.
Reasons for Postponement
In a statement made available to Nyasa Times, UMP organizing team said the change in dates has been necessitated by a combination of factors, which will allow them to take on board new sponsors.
“A week before the main event and after already formal contract agreement has been reached; Lucky Lucianos management have informed us of the complaints residents around the premise raised through authorities of possible noise during the event.
“We have therefore settled for the Blantyre Cultural Centre (Formerly French Cultural Centre), an established venue for the arts industry in Malawi befitting the stature of the Festival,” reads the statement in part.
Meanwhile, the team disclosed that new sponsors have joined the bandwagon and for their strategic interest they appealed for the shifting of the festival to July month-end.
SMS Voting Extended
The team said the shifting of the event to this month-end will give them opportunity to add more excitement to the event such as extension of SMS voting for UMP headliners to 14th July, 2013 and introduction of Weekly Draws.
“Expect more fun and glamour as we have added new exciting prizes to be won weekly. People can vote for their favorite nominated artist or Dj by sending SMS to 58181 (each SMS costs K50). Please be notified that, despite the shifting of the event, preparations are still progressing positively and all other earlier disclosed plans and programs, such as Media and Life-time Achievers Awards, remain unchanged”.
“UMP organizing team assures the general public that it is focused and working tirelessly to deliver a more invigorated, exciting and up-to-expectation UMP festival. We commend the public and stakeholders’ support to ensure this event successful. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience the postponement and shifting may cause,” further reads the statement.
