Malawi VP Chilima speaks against handouts

Malawian Vice President Saulosi Chilima has called on Malawians to develop hard working spirit and refrain from depending on handouts to contribute to the country’s self economic dependency.

Chilima was speaking Sunday at Ntcheu Assemblies of God Church during a Big Sunday fundraising service which was organised by the church’s projects’ committee to raise funds for the completion of a new church currently under construction.

“As a church you have demonstrated that you are committed towards the development of your church. I am told that you managed to contribute over K14 million out of the budgeted K30 million for the building of the church, this is very commendable,” said Chilima.

He said God only gives to those who work hard as such he advised the church’s faithful to continue working hard and praying if they have to achieve their vision of having a magnificent church.

Update

Chilima then took advantage to update the nation on the current economic status of the country, saying government has no money and that Malawian should not be scared of the situation as most countries including donor countries in the world are also facing economic hardships.

“There is nothing you can achieve by pin pointing the government for the economic challenges we are going through, these problems have not left out any countries including donor countries,” he said.
On donors, the Vice President said donors attach conditions to their assistance and that such conditions are just scape goats, adding that the donors themselves are also in financial hardships.

“This is not to scare you, but this is the truth and what we should do as Malawians, is to work hard so that our country becomes economically independent,” he advised.

Independence

Earlier, President of Malawi Assemblies of God Church, Revered Dr. Edward Chitsonga commended the government for taking stein polices which would in the long run contribute to the country’s’ economic independence.

On the church’s political stand, Dr. Chitsonga said the church should not be mistaken for siding with any other political parties saying the church is an independent entity.

“The former president of the church, Dr. Lazarus Chakwera is now Malawi Congress Party president and this does not mean that there is a link between the political party and Malawi Assemblies of God,” said Chitsonga.

Stop lying saulosi. Which donor countries are you talking about? Spain and Portugal or Italy? If you really are talking of our donors, (UK, US, Germany etc) then stop lying about their economies cause they are trillion times better than your below the par economy. Btw, aid budget has never been affected by cuts in the UK. In other ways, has been RING FENCED just like the NHS. Stop lying to the majority illeterate. Mr saulosi, you shuold know that. Imagine if say Nick Clegg or Joe Bidden stood up and uttered such nonsense, weeh. So are you trying to defend your dubious ways? Shame. And btw, don’t utter your lies in the house of God. 16. Dandire wa Dandire says:

Stop lying about donor countries.Even your boss stayed in a donor country for 40 yrs knowing because of their favourable conditions until the time when he came back after his fallen brother ripped Malawi right, left and centre and becoming a billionaire overnight in a poverty stricken Malawi like he won a mega lottery living Malawians in dire poverty.Basics are affordable in donor countries unlike in Malawi where u hv to think twice when u r getting into the shop. You wont find Mayi Obama or Mayi Cameron dipping their fingers into some health organisations just because their husbands are the most powerful men in the land.In donor countries everybody is accountable for public funds unlike in Malawi where politicians get away with everything. It is only in Malawi where politicians get a pay raise whatever percentage they want while its people cannot even afford a decent meal.So stop comparing the accountable Mzungu donor countries than the backward nyasa country where politicians are just there to alleviate their own poverty. So you r young man losing direction little by little among the greedy oldmen who are opportunists yet they claim to be our polticians
    Talk sense Mr airtel money.

  25. dreamteam says:

Good advice my VP – but maybe the advice should be directed at Sanjika or Kamuzu Palace where handouts are being given to non deserving people such as journalists.

And can someone publish the list of journalists who received the money and never returned the money. Shame on these half baked journalists.

  26. Manolo says:

How about the MK50,000.00 that your boss handed out to journalists? Don’t speak from both sides of your mouth please you are so disgusting.

  27. Tengupenya says:

Generality should rather prevail, than specifying Dr. Laz who has since moved on from religion to politics. He is serving in another calling, after severing his leadership in your church. No need to placate the administration with specific reference to your ex president turned alternative national leader as the political leader of the opposition. May God bless you and your church.

  28. Tinkanena says:

Indeed mindset of handouts is one of the factors fueling corruption in this country. People in this country have become lazy and reliant on others who are doing well in business or jobs. There is no such a thing as hardworking. People lie in wait for a connection. That connection goes with a little bribe. Yet they can use the same bribe to invest in something long term unlike common thing called Connection.
With all due respect for u vp, I fault u on this issue of donors using the current situation as a scapegoat. Are u trying to bury ur head in the sand and pretend as if cashgate never happened? This cashgate is the main cause of aid suspension. Ofcourse the World economy is not stable at the moment but as far as Aid to 3rd World countries, it was already budgetted and approved. Mind u Malawi was to wake up tomor corrupt free the money will be available. I stayed in the azungu country before being deported so i have abit of knowledge.Tiyeni tikonze zinthuzi tokha.

  29. Bimbo Akure says:

Dr. Chitsonga is wrong to drag Dr. Chakwera’s name in his speech. Who does not know what you Dr. Chitsonga stand for? You bribed poor pastors with money and you made tribalistic remarks against Dr. Nelson Banda who was the right person to take over from Dr. Chakwera. Inu anthu a kumwera ndinu odzikonda komanso a nsanje kwambiri. Pano Assemblies of God yalowa pansi chifukwa cha utsogoleri opanda maso mphenya. You thought Chakwera was travelling a lot outside the country because of being the President of the Church. Dr. Chakwera is one of the high caliber leaders of Malawi who was grounded in credible education not inu ma police constable.

  30. mlomwe wachitonga says:

the VPs remarks on economic situation in MW are not giving any hope. he is just iforming us what donors & other countries are passin thru. ofcourse malawians shud work hard & thats what we are, but you as gvt what effort are you putting on ground to bail out the hardworking poor mw from de situation at hand.

  31. Manolo says:

It is very demoralizing when the salary harmonization process gives 80 – 360 per cent pay hike to the least hard working people and marginalized the most hard working people. What kind of madness is that. You have the audacity to call us lazy,,,, and handout eager people. My foot Mr VP you are so out of touch!

  32. kwa phelewera kwathu says:

Pliz mr VIP tell us WHAT CONDITIONS DO THE DONORS PUT???? DO THEY ASK FOR BLOOD, HUMAN PARTS, HOMOSEXUALITY, TO KILL ALL THE MUSLIMS IN COUNTRY? Tell us!!!!!

  33. chimwendo says:

Malawi can not develop with these greedy leaders.

  34. mUSAMAKONDELE POPANGA ZINTHU

  35. Kadakwiza says:

What can Malawians expect from this Chilima guy who was selling UNITS and phones. Nothing. Mr VP tell Malawians what they should do to be economically independent. I don’t think you have any idea. So just keep the mouth shut. Malawians need jobs Mr. VP. People are sleeping at immigration offices to have your expensive passports because they are running away of poverty. Create jobs if you don’t want handouts. Mr. VP know that because of poverty handouts is remedy. Mr VP have you ever spent more than four days without food? I don’t think so. That is why you are talking this rubbish. You must know that there is poverty out there. People are suffering. Shaah!

  36. Mtupatupa says:

Such are political talk. But its better to lie outside the church

  37. me says:

    THINK WISELLY AND ANSWER.
YOU THINK THAT WOMEN STILL THE MONEY?

  38. mwiko says:

But why did Rev Dr. Chitsonga mention Rev Dr. Chakwera on this occasion. You should just have stopped at saying the church you lead is non partisan fullstop.
What are you going to say when one day Rev Dr. Chawera comes to your church meets??

Dr Chitsonga, you were not supposed to mention Chakwera in this, every Assemblies of God faithful knows what Dr Chakwera has done to the church, just eat the dirty money.

  43. John says:

Jah jah jah…. Whatever! Which donor country is experiencing such civil service strikes and escalating food costs? Name one? Or just name one that has the president and wife stealing money from HIV/AIDS people for their own pockets? I thought so. Just zip it!

  44. kyroc says:

T’s really true.there is no way we should talk about donors when in reality the responsibility of developing this nation is ours.T’s high time malawians woke up so that the politicians should not gain their ground on smeared sentiments viz a viz donor aid. i hail and eulogise mr vip for undressing the naked truth on the ground. dziko likuwawa ndi zoona koma osaganiza kuti solution yake ndi chithandizo chochokera kwa azungu. that is completely psychological masterbation. GOD bless our beautiful and generous mother Malawi

  45. victim Chamkhuni Lwazazi says:

Well spoken VP. But address the national economic situation, Yes everybody needs to contribute by working hard, but remember your government is on the driving seat. By not waiting to approve increase of salaries for the ministers and mps the presidency is contradicting itself when saying poor Malawians are facing hardships. For an example an mp: 1. Gets salary even if he runs his business in town far from his/her constituency
    2. Get’s allowances when working at parliament, yet parliament is supposed to be
    his/her office.
    3. Stays in Lilongwe but claims travel mileage money when attending committee
in Lilongwe as if he/she is traveling to and from his/her constituency (Chitipa,
Nsanje, Karonga, Blantyre, Salima, Machinga, etc). Everybody knows this
but nobody cares. Even the ACB, Min. of Finance, Fiscal police and other bodies
can easily track the cheating, but nobody cares. These guys will have to pay
    back the money one day.
    4. Pass bills only when there are benefits to them or get heavy money through
‘little or no interest’ loans, much of which is non-refundable.
    5. They already get high salaries, while the poor civil servants out there are
    suffering.
Similar situation is the case with ministers.

  46. dadaboma says:

Umbombo basi! Why raise your perks and those of president, MPs, and cabinet by such huge percentages if Malawi has no money? You’re greedy. And giving is blessing of God – only satanists refuse to give to the poor under the guise of handouts. Haven’t you read the Bible saying “blessed is the hand that giveth”? Even Lucky Duwe knew the importance of giving. But not DPP – no, they won’t give, because to them this is handout. Stupid. And because DPP has failed to convince donors to return to our country they’re now cheating people that the donors are failing to assist Malawi because the donor countries themselves have their own economic problems. Wow! How are the donors giving money to NAC if they’ve problems? And if the donors stop giving money to NAC because of DPP’s theft then it’s not because donors have their own problems. DPP must wise up and do the following
1.Accept that giving attracts God’s love and mercy. DPP must care for the less privileged. If you do not want to give directly, then either increase perks for the majority lowly paid workers who will be subsequently enabled to help their dependents (each supports about 10 dependents) or create social benefit programs where the unemployed should also be entitled to some monthly pay to enable them live adequate life. Don’t say Malawi is poor and therefore cannot do this. On the contrary it’s because Malawi is poor that it should do this because its people are so poor that they need a caring govt to redeem them. If you can’t do either of these then give money directly to people when a chance for this avails itself – don’t say it’s handout.God will bless you. Greed is for Satan.
2.Stop stealing. Seal all leaking holes in govt financial systems. Refund NAC money stolen. Be trustworthy, and go back to donors to assist. These people are willing to help Malawi in spite of them going through problems – there always have been problems, but they have always assisted us when we appeared to use their assistance as intended.

Iwe Saulosi. Iwe Saulosi. As a former MD if Airtel were to have no money would you implement a 367% increment for anyone. You are supposed to be a bright spot in this confused government now you talking like an old man. APM said he wants you to bring a pvt sector mind in govt. Now you are just full of rubbish kissing APMs ass. Is this the civil service reform championing. The MP wage bill has jumped from 24million a month to 115million a month or 291million a year to 1.4billion a year. Thts just salaries before benefits. And u say govt has no money. Zogawa ma Prado and hilux ku Airtel mwayamba ndi taxpayers money. I guess you have introduced Yabooka ku treasury
